I am a mixed media artist from Ventura, California. After years of trying different mediums, I am the most creative using a variety of material in my process. I use acrylics, watercolors, papers, inks, charcoals, pastels, small hardware, wood, glass and pretty much anything else I find interesting! I typically do not create a piece of art about one specific subject. The materials in front of me often inspire my subject matter. Other times I am influenced by nature, animals, music, movies, people or just everyday life. Much of my work is abstract, colorful and tends to range from a simple watercolor to a more complex mixed media piece. My love of art started at a very young age. I can't remember a time that I wasn't doing something creative, but in a very private way. My art was something I shared with only a few family members and friends.  In 2007, I first showed my work in public. That year I won the Ventura College Award of Excellence, first place, in the mixed media category. It was the first time that I showed in a juried exhibition! In 2011, I won first place in a show at the Atrium Gallery for a mixed media piece entitled “Bound by Fear.” In addition, I have shown my work at events in conjunction with the Museum of Ventura County, Red Brick Gallery, Stoneworks Gallery and Ventura Artists Union. I have participated in several street fairs like Art Walk and Paint Ventura. In January 2015, I started an art blog: ymf13.tumblr.com. I've challenged myself to create art every single day for a year: “365 Days Project.”

I am a local artist, musician, mother of four and wife living in the Ventura area since 2005. I approach each work of art as an opportunity to adventure outside the "lines." Sometimes something as simple as the use of a palette knife instead of a brush, using recycled materials as unique embellishments or simply the use of your negative space can take each piece to a new level. I have also been performing as an honorary guest vocalist in the renowned, local award-winning, Rockabilly band Hard Six. You can see me lending my talents as the "June Carter" in their popular renditions of the songs of Johnny Cash at The Roadshow Revival Festival each year and at many of the local venues all year round.

Artists and craftsmen of every kind run in my family, so I grew up surrounded by creativity.  Naturally, my parents weren't surprised when I began drawing at an early age.  After graduating from high school, my father encouraged me to study Illustration in college.   And, thankfully,  my husband of nearly 30 years has cheered my artistic journey along every step of the way. Growing up on the California Central Coast near some of the most beautiful beaches, mountains, and countryside in the world, my artistic senses were nurtured.  This region is rich in nature, marine life, and wildlife so I would often get lost in thought watching the way light played on the sea, plants cast shadows, and how wildlife appeared and then seemingly disappeared into the environment.  My family also includes several musicians, which was highly influential on my creative expression.  Frequent references to music genres and instruments manifest in my work. One day, on an unplanned visit to an art glass supply shop in Ventura, CA, I was intrigued and signed up for a stained glass class.  It was instantly apparent that I was in my element, and my glass art journey began.  Now in my second decade as a working glass artist, I have developed technical knowledge of glass as a medium, finely honed mechanical skills to shape its form/appearance, and infused creative elements to convey storytelling with it.

Visual Arts: Illustration, Other, Painting; Fine Art, Watercolor, Charcoal, Pastel, Mixed Media
Galina Richardson was born in Volgograd, Russia and has been drawing and painting ever since she was a young girl. Growing up, she was also interested in languages and she ultimately sought a formal education in the field of linguistics. While working as a technical translator in Surgut, Western Siberia, Galina met her American husband. She soon joined him in Ventura, California and has called this coastal city her home for more than twenty-five years. Galina studied graphic design at UCSB and for many years worked as a graphic designer, creating logos, advertisements, posters and brochures. She went on to work for the FBI in Los Angeles as a language analyst, but her passion for art remained. Mostly self-taught, Galina is a passionate watercolorist. She loves the freedom, spontaneity and delicate nature of the watercolor medium. Capturing people in all their uniqueness has been the main driving force behind Galina’s artwork and her two daughters often provide inspiration for her paintings. Galina frequently exhibits at the Buenaventura and Thousand Oaks Art Associations, where her artwork has received recognition from her peers and the public. She paints plein air, enjoys life figure drawing, attends classes and workshops taught by renowned local and international artists, including Keiko Tanabe, Nick Runge, Cuong Nguyen, Gerald Brummer, Paul Jackson, Jeannie Vodden, and Judy Koenig. Galina is also an avid runner and has recently reached her goal of completing 50 marathons.

Mainly I am an artist, though I wear a few hats: Public Art Project Manager for the City of Ventura California, and other various creative ways to make a living while still being loyal to the arts. I also LOVE to make stuff. Paintings, collage, sculpture, enamored with repurposing things, whatever inspiration brings. I guess you'd like to know that I was educated. Firstly by life experience, many mentors and teachers, so far, but more formally I have a BA in Fine Art from Cal State Channel Islands. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to study (and continue), in depth, what it is I love so much.I've done a bit of traveling, met a lot of people, enjoyed working as a personal assistant to very amazing people. I look and listen within frequently. I've endured my fair share of life lessons. I've been the giver and receiver of a lot of love. I am grateful.
