Plein-air Open Competition

Buenaventura Art Association’s Plein-air Open Competition is currently running through Feb. 25. The exhibition features original works by local artists – both BAA members and
nonmembers – who venture from their studios to stalk inspiration and creativity in the world outdoors.

Concurrently, a small solo show highlights a selection of BAA member Laura Jespersen’s acrylic plein-air paintings. The award-winning Ventura artist coordinates the Ventura County Plein-air Group, which meets frequently in locations around the county to sketch or paint outside.

Another lauded local plein-air painter, Sharon Weaver, who has given demonstrations, workshops and art talks throughout Southern California since 2011, is juror for the Open
Competition. The awards will be announced during a 6-9 p.m. reception Feb. 3 in the gallery.
