First Friday is one of Ventura’s most well-known arts and culture events, and one of the hardest hit due to COVID-19. Every gallery and venue has suffered over the course of the last year. One of the attributes of the arts however, is the ability to adapt and inspire, to move forward and connect, and to find a voice that speaks to the times. That's why First Friday is being revived virtually by local artists and art organizations to provide a platform for the arts while we weather the storm.
Virtual First Friday will be held February 5 at 6 p.m. online, hosted by ArtsVentura, and every First Friday thereafter.
By creating a one-stop web page for folks to find out what's happening on Friday night, Virtual First Friday mimics what happened in the real world on Friday nights, when galleries opened their doors and music could be heard coming out of venues across town. Artists and arts organizations will be able to submit their ongoing projects, and visitors will be able to virtually visit individual sites, participate in zoom gatherings, effectively bringing the event into their own homes.
