The Oxnard Performing Arts Center (The PACC) will be concluding this season’s “Dinner and A Movie” series with a Surrealist Fiesta inspired by the Mexican icon, Frida Kahlo. The event centers around a screening of two time Academy Award-winning film, Frida, on August 31st starting at 7 p.m.
Frida and her artistic contemporaries were legendary for their surrealist fêtes. The PACC will engage attendees with classic surrealist games, unexpected surprises, displays of strange objects, a photo booth, and other curious cultural elements. La Catrina Folk Art from Ventura, known for their Frida fare, will also be having a pop-up shop at the event.
The menu includes Jackfruit Mole, Chicken Mole, and Chile Verde (pork chunks smothered in green sauce). Choices for the sides are spanish rice, beans, a green salad, and tortilla chips with homemade salsa. Rounding out the meal are typical Mexican beverages (horchata, jamaica, sweet tea, water, and coffee) and desserts (Buñuelos and Tamales de Chocolate).
Dinner is followed by the 2002 biopic of Frida Kahlo, starring Salma Hayek, and Alfred Molina as her husband Diego Rivera, the larger-than-life painters who became the most acclaimed artists in Mexican history, and whose tempestuous love affair, landmark journeys to America, and outrageous personalities made them legendary.
