Music for Changing Times: Looking Back/Moving Forward

Presented by Rubicon Theatre Company at Rubicon Theatre

Rubicon Theatre Company, in association with Music2Life, presents a weeklong series of events bringing together three generations of artists from different genres to celebrate the power of music to effect positive change. The festival is curated by five-time Grammy Award-winner Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul, and Mary, who lives part-time in Ojai and has appeared in solo concerts at Rubicon. The festival includes three readings of a theatrical concert (as part of Rubicon’s Play-In-Progress) -- The Folk-Rock Project; a National Songwriting Competition for those 18-38 and a Top 10 Concert and Awards Ceremony; a master class; a one-night-only concert starring Stookey and Peter Yarrow that takes the audience on a musical journey through their lives as activist artists; and a culminating Saturday night event featuring music related to issues of the environment, peace and social justice, with Stookey, Yarrow, spoken word artist Decora; Raptivist founder Aisha Fukushima, Eco-hip hop artist Tem Blessed, restorative justice artist Naima Shalhoub; competition winners and the Rubicon Harmonix youth group under the direction of Miriam Arichea. Other participants in the festival include music agent Ira Goldenring of Paradigm; Mark Hartley of The Fitzgerald Hartley Co.; George Grove of The Kingston Trio; Jimmy Messina (Buffalo Springfield, Poco and Loggins & Messina); Grammy-nominated Scottish artist Dave Gibson (whose country hit was just performed on the recent CMA Awards by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw); Tony Award-winner and music manager Normand Kurtz (Christina Aguilera, David Bowie); Tony nominee and LADCC winner Dan Wheetman of Marley’s Ghost; Golden Globe Award-winner Amanda McBroom (“The Rose”), Grammy nominee Perla Batalla (Leonard Cohen), Tariqh (music director for Josh Groban and Stevie Wonder); Nuvi Mehta (Artistic Director of Ventura Music Festival; Director of Special Projects, San Diego Symphony); the Drama Desk and Outer Critics nominated singers/musicians of The Lonesome Travelers and more.
