Events
Saturday 8:45 pm-9:30 pm - Strong.mng - live performance, overtone singing, dance illustration
PhD performance by Ventura's own Justin Kennedy returning from Arizona to give the premiere of his thesis concert strong.mng.
*strong.mng* is a 45-minute production for dancer, live digital illustrator, and overtone singer with a laptop serving as an interactive musical instrument.  The protagonist, who is insecure with his physical weakness, is transported through his laptop into a dream-like Mongolian world where he finds a powerful jacket and a mysterious dancing warrior woman, portrayed by Wenwen Dong.  Behind them is a spectacular 15 X 11.5 foot canvas featuring real-time digital illustration by artist Amelia Boon.  The protagonist is played by Justin Leo Kennedy, a Ventura County native returning home midway through his doctoral studies at Arizona State University, who will overtone sing in a Mongolian-influenced style as well as provide experimental electronic music.  This 45-minute piece will be a part of Artwalk Ventura and can be seen on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the WAV in Ventura, California.  Admission is free! Justin will release videos of the project’s developments in the weeks leading up to the performance.  Please stop by his website www.justinleokennedymusic.com
