Entry deadline is April 1, 2015.

This competition is open to artists at all levels, ages 18 – 35, currently residing in Ventura County.

Work submitted must be original in design. Work created in a workshop with the aid of an instructor is not acceptable.

Work submitted must fall within the genre of “portraiture.”

Work submitted must be in one of the following media: painting, drawing or print.

Work submitted must have been created on or after January 1, 2012.

Portrait dimensions should not exceed 30” x 30”.

Up to two portraits may be submitted.

Each entry must be accompanied by: a) an artist statement; b) a signed agreement; c) two digital images in jpeg-format, one overall view of the portrait and one detail view.

Each entry must be submitted by email.

Entries will be judged by a panel of independent judges based on the digital images provided. All decisions of the jury will be final. Accepted entries will be notified in May 2015. The Museum reserves the right to omit from the exhibition accepted portraits that differ dramatically from what is represented by the submitted digital image.

Submitted works will be judged based on the following criteria: visual impact, communication, originality and technique.

If your work is accepted, you are responsible for its delivery to the Museum of Ventura County by a specified date (TBA). If you cannot deliver your work in person, you must send your work via UPS or FedEx. You must include a prepaid UPS or FedEx shipping label for the return of your work if you cannot pick up your work after the end of the exhibition. You are responsible for insurance of your artwork during transit.

Work submitted must be in excellent condition with hanging system in place.

Back of work should be clearly marked with artist’s information and title of work.

The Museum of Ventura County will insure artwork for the duration of the exhibition in the gallery. In the event of loss or damage, the artist will be required to provide documentation confirming the value of the work and the extent of the claim.

Scan of completed entry form and agreement for each entry (up to two entries).Two digital images (jpeg format) for each entry.  One overall view, one detailed view.
