643 Project Space is pleased to present work by artist David Young. David’s work is rooted in mimetics; he pursues a rigorous, observational realism while also addressing the physicality of the paint itself. In much of his work, he focuses on the human figure. Rather than rendering specific individuals, David prefers to present archetypes of the human condition. In the absence of specific environments and localities, color fields or series of marks represent portals into the figures’ emotions and realities. In his most recent work, he has turned his interest to flat abstraction, creating compositions that grow organically from specific color combinations. Although they may appear to be unrelated to his representational pieces, they share a foundation in the formal color and compositional choices made as the work unfolds. David says that, “Whether painting figures, still life’s or abstractions, I hope to find the spark of humanity that always triumphs in the simple act of painting. “

The exhibition is free and open to the public. 643 A Project Space is an alternative contemporary art gallery exhibiting emerging and established national and international artists.
