Spend a fun day learning how to capture the world in watercolors as you paint your very own piece. In each class you will finish one painting of the given subject, all levels are welcome and lots of personal coaching will be provided. NO DRAWING SKILLS NEEDED! Seashell Still Life

Sunday, Feb. 1st 1-4pm $49 each or $64 with supplies

Ventura is the iconic beach community and what a lovely addition for any home this shell painting would be. Texturizing, under-painting and highlighting will be the focus as we explore the novelty uses of various supplies to create wonderful realism in this Seashell Still Life. You will learn to create shape and texture of the beautiful shell with the use of glazing and shadows and a variety of other techniques will be used.

Creating the Illusion Of Distance and Misty Mountains in Your Landscapes

As we are painting the hazy mountain sunset we’ll explore painting values in layered washes to create atmospheric perspective and the illusion of distance with layering and vivid shades. The splendor of light and the layered misty mountains combine for a beautiful landscape watercolor painting.

Barnyard Art

Sunday, Feb. 22nd 1-4pm

Create your own Barnyard Art from roosters, chickens, baby chicks and geese. You choose your favorite and learn how to create each one’s unique look in watercolors. You’ll experiment in painting feathers and skins. It a great foundation class for painting all types of animals.

Lily Pads and Koi Pond

Koi are truly a fun subject to undertake as you learn to create the movement and rhythm of this beautiful fish with such colorful and varied patterns. We will work with color schemes, glazing, and using the technique of softening to create the movement and swirls in their translucent pond.

Pet Silhouettes & Fantasy Animals with Ink and Watercolors

Explore a world of animals in a whimsical way with this all day class focusing on fun ways of painting a variety of animals in rainbow colors and full of personality. You choose your subjects and Phyllis will help you mix realistic trait with fanciful style. Several examples and patterns will be provided in class to get you started on your journey into another land of creatures.

Ventura’s Shorebirds

We’ll mix the colors of nature as we paint this majestic bird. You’ll learn how to create natural feathers with ease and we’ll add sky, ocean waters and sea grass to the setting. Choose from a Blue Heron, Pelican or Seagull.

Sunflowers in Motion

Learn clever ways to paint a fabulous a Sunflower Bouquet. You’ll improve your skills in building-up glazes, graded washes, texturizing and blending as you paint these gorgeous and unique floral that everyone will love.

The Undersea World of Magical Jellyfish

Using a variety of watercolor techniques we will create the splendor under the sea with these beautiful sea creatures. You will experiment with masking and then pouring, spritzing and splattering loose watercolors plus a few other exciting methods of adding textures and dimension to create this vibrant painting.

You will be painting an assortment of realistic flowers as we translate their beauty into exciting and vibrantly colorful watercolor paintings. With simple tips you’ll learn how to make even the most difficult flower a very easy subject to paint and you will be ready to apply these new techniques to any flower you choose.

Fanciful Frogs

Let you fun side explore these extremely colorful wonders of nature and create a vibrant painting with a solitary Froggy figure, a few clustered in a tree or a crowd showing off their adorable faces and multi-colored possibilities. You will find yourself laughing and smiling all through this class.

Mermaids and Their World

Learn to paint a magical mermaid with long flowing hair, whimsical personality and a colorful tail in this fun class. You choose the style that most inspires you and Phyllis will give you the steps to create them in watercolor. Finish your painting by adding in the sea environment with splashes of waves, the coastline and dramatic sky.
