Twangero

Presented by Ventura Music Festival at Ventura College Performing Arts Center

The Ventura Music Festival is featuring the music of Twanguero, the “nom de guitare” of Valencia-born Diego Garcia, on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ventura College Performing Arts Center. Here’s what he says about himself:

"I am three guitarists in one. I play classical nylon-string with my fingers and artificial nails. I play with a thumb pick when I switch to the steel-string acoustic. And when I play electric guitar, I play exclusively with a pick - no hybrid picking. I developed the three techniques in order to get the music right, and to express myself the way I want to.”

As to VMF’s concert on April 9, expect the artist to open with stories and a gorgeous acoustic solo set based on his new Backroads Vol 2 CD. Set to launch in April, it's the musical result of his profound experience in the jungles of Costa Rica, inspired by everything including jaguars and bird songs.

You may find yourself dancing in the second part of the program when Twanguero brings out his bandmates and electric guitar and proceeds to inject dictionary-definition twang into an astonishing range of genres - boogie, country, jazz, rock, Argentinian, Mexican, Spanish.

If you know his music, you love him already. If you don’t, you will.
