Founding Grandfather Information
Billy Clower Dance studio was founded in 1953 by Billy Clower, and is now run by his daughter, Diane Gilbert, and his granddaughter, Amy Gilbert, a recent graduate of Oklahoma City University with a Bachelors in Dance and Arts Management.
Billy began dancing in Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 10 and by the time he was 17 he had been the first tap dancer on radio, was touring nationally, and had danced for President Roosevelt. In the 40's he began teaching in national convention tours with henry LeTang, neck Castle, Willie Covan, and Al Gilbert. Student Achievements
Students of the Billy Clower Dance Studio have gone on to dance in movies, appear in music videos, TV shows, Las Vegas revues, commercials, and award shows. Besides performing, or, in addition to some students have become teachers in community colleges and high schools around the Central and Southern California areas and some have acted as Stage Manager for local productions.
Clower Dance Company
Now, in the third generation of BCDS's existence, Billy's granddaughter, Amy, has begun the Clower Dance Company. CDC is composed of the studio's most dedicated and talented students age 8 and up. The CDC performs locally, in schools and community events, attends dance conventions and competitions, and provides a great opportunity for dancers of all ages to hone their skills onstage while sharing their art with the public. Clower Dance Company's repertoire includes: Latin Tap, Classical Tap, Acapella Tap, Classical jazz, Lyrical Jazz, Modern Dance, Hip hop, Musical Theatre Dance, and Ballet. Clower Dance Company's choreography includes works from: Billy Clower, Diane Gilbert, Amy Gilbert, Elinor Dikes, Khaliqa Smith, and Heather Rose.
Year-end Dance Spectacular
Large-scale productions, held at Ventura High School, are performed every odd year, while smaller, more intimate performances are held at the studio every winter break, and on even years, are tentatively scheduled at Ventura County Christian School, directly across the studio.
