“We Remember: Ventura County to Vietnam and Back”
A tribute to the county’s Vietnam veterans, as well as those who didn’t make it home

Forty years after the fall of Saigon, the Museum of Ventura County presents an exhibition that pays tribute to the 108 young men from Ventura County who were killed in action, and recognizes the region’s veterans by telling their stories.
We Remember illustrates the Vietnam conflict through artifacts, documentary photographs, personal effects and audio and video recordings. Curated by Anna Bermudez with documentary filmmaker George J. Sandoval, the exhibit features an original film on Ventura County Vietnam veterans, incorporating first-hand accounts of their experiences created solely for this exhibit.
“This is an important story to tell, because not only will it bring the war experience to life, it will serve as a place for vets, their families and visitors to reflect on the wartime experience,” according to Anna Bermudez, the museum’s curator. “I hope people will walk away with the feeling that they understand a little more about the Vietnam War and what it was like for these soldiers. They were just young kids who risked their lives, their futures.”
The exhibit utilizes authentic artifacts and personal photographs to convey the untold experiences of our County’s youth against the backdrop of the larger, more familiar photos and speeches of the time. The names and photos of the 108 fallen soldiers from Ventura County will be displayed in a way that allows friends, relatives and others to pay their respects after all these years.
