Although women artists during the modern period until the latter half of the 20th century entered the mainstream in the visual arts at a greater number than before, they were still the minority in most museums, institutions, and the art world.
The purpose of the exhibition is to explore the significant contributions women artists have made to modernism, contemporary and post-modern discourse, whether stylistically, technically, fundamentally, or theoretically. These artists explored the significance of the modern world, the effects of world war, the essence of color and abstraction, the exploration of new mediums and pushing the limits of media, re-inventing of the “feminine,” and the body politic in Feminist art.
The exhibition not only examines these artists as to creative endeavors, but also the means by which they altered society’s perception of the very nature and practice of art itself.
