    Visual Arts: Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture
I have been a photographer for most of my life and was introduced to printmaking a few years ago. The polymer etchings seem to be a natural extension of my work. Printmaking gives me the opportunity to expand my initial impression of an image. Printmaking reminds me of my days printing in the darkroom. There is a similar feeling of anticipation and excitement when you pull out a photo that has completely developed in the tray to when you pull back the blankets and see your first print on the etching press. About the Artist: Michele Chapin has been a working California artist for the past 30 years, exhibiting and receiving countless awards for her sculptures and contributions to the community where she has lived. She attended the University of California in Santa Cruz studying drawing, printmaking, jewelry, sculpting in bronze, clay and metal, art history and psychology. As a founding member of the Santa Cruz Art Center, she had the opportunity to work with several professional artists working in a variety of mediums, and it was there, she carved her first stone. In 1987, Michele relocated to Ventura and with the purchase of a minimal amount of tools, began teaching herself to carve. Many of her sculptures are created from stones that she has quarried from local deserts in California, as well as purchased from other states and countries. Desert Flower, a sculpture created during this time, was one of the first pieces purchased for the Ventura Municipal Art Collection on permanent display at City Hall. Several of her first major projects, collaborating with Master Gardner Richard Sanders, were creating sculpture gardens for the Ventura County Symphony Design House. Her sculptures included stone benches, and fountains that incorporated carved hydroplaning marble spheres. From these projects she was commissioned to create and install a monumental granite sphere fountain by U.S. Sales Corporation in Moorpark, California. These fountains were the first of their kind to be created in the United States. In 2009, Mayor Christy Weir awarded her with the Mayor’s Arts award for her achievements and contributions. In 2011 she received an Art Star Award from the Ventura County Arts Council for her achievements as a sculptor, and outreach in the community. In July 2010 she was featured with a 3-month solo exhibition, at the grand reopening of the Ventura County Museum. The Museum showcased 14 of her stone sculptures, with major works on loan from several private collections. In 2011 her sculpture Divine Balance was purchased by the Ventura County Museum for their permanent collection.  In 2013 Michele collaborated with artist Susan Petty producing a 3-month exhibit “Old Hands New Works” where she exhibited a time capsule of sculptures including her first carving to present day.  In April 2014 Michele had a Solo Exhibition - “Chasing Beauty”  at Minan Gallery in Los Angeles of new works. This year’s body of sculptures are created from the inspiration of images captured daily with an Iphone 5 camera. At present, Michele works as a community arts activist, teacher and stone sculptor creating public and private commissions.  Her studio and gallery are open during First Fridays Ventura and Westside Ventura Artwalks when she and partner, Guy Wilson, host monthly free community exhibitions showcasing Michele’s sculptures and several artists and musicians of all ages. As a community arts activist, one of her goals is to bring art to the people and people to the art, by putting art back into the community through classes and exhibitions in her open air Stoneworks Studio, and garden.

I am a mixed media artist from Ventura, California. After years of trying different mediums, I am the most creative using a variety of material in my process. I use acrylics, watercolors, papers, inks, charcoals, pastels, small hardware, wood, glass and pretty much anything else I find interesting! I typically do not create a piece of art about one specific subject. The materials in front of me often inspire my subject matter. Other times I am influenced by nature, animals, music, movies, people or just everyday life. Much of my work is abstract, colorful and tends to range from a simple watercolor to a more complex mixed media piece. My love of art started at a very young age. I can't remember a time that I wasn't doing something creative, but in a very private way. My art was something I shared with only a few family members and friends.  In 2007, I first showed my work in public. That year I won the Ventura College Award of Excellence, first place, in the mixed media category. It was the first time that I showed in a juried exhibition! In 2011, I won first place in a show at the Atrium Gallery for a mixed media piece entitled “Bound by Fear.” In addition, I have shown my work at events in conjunction with the Museum of Ventura County, Red Brick Gallery, Stoneworks Gallery and Ventura Artists Union. I have participated in several street fairs like Art Walk and Paint Ventura. In January 2015, I started an art blog: ymf13.tumblr.com. I've challenged myself to create art every single day for a year: “365 Days Project.”

I consider myself a pop artist. My paintings and sculptures usually contain popular cultural references — present and past. My ideas are the best art I make — I work in whatever medium is best suited to realize an idea. My finest creations are the products of collaborations. I paint murals for my community, or with my community. A significant portion of my mural work has involved youth, from elementary to college level, in both the design and painting of the mural. I often use collage in making art — creating visual “mash-ups,” pairing or combining an image from one source with an idea or text from another source. The “Holidaze in MBUniverse,” 1996 to the present, are a limited edition photograph series, based on conceptual variations of American holiday cards. Otherwise, my photos tend to be banal observations of my interesting and often hilarious neighborhood, Ventura Avenue in Ventura, CA. I live Art. It is all about Seeing, Listening, Honesty, Serving, and having a good sense of humor. You have an Idea? Let’s talk about making it happen.

I make art and share ideas by taking the question marks in my life and bending them into exclamation points. I employ an iterative process honed by experience in research, athletics, and art to present complex ideas in compelling ways. For over a decade I have explored and combined traditional art materials with digital techniques demonstrating creative fluency. By moving with ease and grace through a variety of media, I focus on communicating ideas and I gain knowledge in the process.I work intuitively and iteratively when creating art and often apply scientific methodology to my art practice with the rigor of a seasoned athlete.By observing human behavior, asking generative questions, and analyzing information, I experience daily how a disciplined process leads to comprehension of complex data and ideas. I use my artistic sensibility to present my findings in unique and compelling ways.I appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of the artist's life. I aspire to travel, to teach, and to create while extending my exhibition record. Being nourished creatively while partaking in a challenging path is a delight, and I particularly relish learning along the way.Art is the most practical, essential, and exciting field of work in the world today, and I look forward to sharing it with you.PETE IPPELBorn: 1979, Oak Park, ILLives and works in Ventura, CAemail: pete@hypermodern.netweb: http://peteippel.comblog: http://hypermodern.netEDUCATIONSAN FRANCISCO ART INSTITUTE, 2002-2004M.F.A., New Genres, 2004Critique seminars: Tony Labat, Paul Kos, Tom Marioni, Trisha Donnelly. Born in Toronto Canada, Patty Kennedy is a graduate of George Brown College of Applied Arts and Technology. She emigrated to LA to work as a sculptor. Early in her career was apprenticed to Nino Russo father of Rene Russo where she learned all aspects of sculpture and casting using the lost wax technique. When she moved North to Ventura this technique was applied to the creation of custom jewelry for many of the prominent jewelry stores in the County. This ability to sculpt in miniature was spotted and recognized by the Goebel Miniature Company in Camarillo and Patty began working through them for the Disney Corporation, Franklin Mint and Danbury Mint, sculpting miniature collectables and her own line of miniature sculptures. After the birth of Patty's son Stephen, she turned to painting as a less time consuming way to continue creating.

I'm an artist, Michelle Nosco, in residence at the WAV of Ventura, California.  I've shown my artwork (paintings, sculpture, weavings and murals) from childhood.                         Here's a 3D Virtual WAV Gallery Exhibit of my charcoal figure drawings: http://www.panomatics360.com/virtualtour/michellenosco/ At five I studied art in the Detroit Museum of Art, high school took me to Wayne State University and the Cranbrook School of Art.  In college as an undergrad  I got a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Art) at the University of Michigan and later a Masters in Directing Theatre, Television and Film at CalARTs (California Institute of the Arts). Entering the work world as an art director, producer and film director for many years I transitioned to become a professional artist -- painting over 100 murals throughout Southern California. In 2007 I founded the Arts For Earth Foundation in California  and since then have painted  expressionistic and impressionistic works including California landscapes and native wildlife for environmental purposes.  In addition, I've been commissioned to paint pet portraits for fundraising to benefit wildlife sanctuaries and wilderness reclamation projects.

Eric D. Ward Painting, Mixed Media, Sculpture, Installation, Performance M.F.A.: (Studio Art) Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, Ca. (2009) M.A. : (Painting) CSUN, Northridge, Ca. (2001) B.A. : (Art): Westmont College, Santa Barbara, Ca. (1999) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My work tends to be confrontational yet inviting. I focus on the juxtaposition of contradictory ideas, materials, styles, treatments, processes, and textures in order to discover a balance between extremes, and it is this clash that I am most interested in. Part of my inspiration is derived from living all of my life near the Southern California coast; living on the edge where the land meets the sea, where the vastness of the ocean is surrounded by the sensory overload of civilization. By using a wide variety of materials and techniques, I seek to convey these extremes (and the tensions among them), to the viewer. I work with various media, styles, and genres that at times overlap within the same piece and/or series of pieces, resulting in what I would refer to as a hybrid. The synthetic as well as natural materials I use are very important to the work. They include wood, rusted metal, sand, sawdust, glass, cement, dirt, stain, gravel, acrylic, resin, nails, nuts and bolts, a variety of pollen and other organic material, and basically anything that is at my disposal. I am also fond of incorporating found objects and icons from various cultures throughout history into my art, sometimes transforming, mutating, and distorting them so that they no longer exist as they did in their original format. This leapfrogging among various media, materials, and styles is due to the joy and challenges I face when experimenting and exploring the extremes, and is what keeps me charged and motivated to keep pursuing the unknown. Ultimately, I strive to convey the contradiction and clash of the natural and the manufactured, giving new meaning to concepts and objects that may no longer be recognizable in their original format. I attempt to blur the boundaries between art and life, reality and fantasy - to expose and examine the gray area among them. I hope to share these sensations of living on the edge, and the bombardment of sensory overload that often characterizes contemporary life. In the end, my intentions are to raise questions and invite various interpretations while sifting through the quagmire I deal with to get from point A to point B during the journey of life, allowing the viewers to form their own opinions as to the meaning of it all.

I was born in Ventura 1947, raised in Anaheim moved back to Ventura in 1967. My first exposure to arts was at Catacombs Assn. on Ventura Ave. in 1969. In 1970 I moved into the Magic Forest, a hand-made crafts store owned by Val Franco. I started my metal sculpture there. I traveled the coast for a year doing craft fairs in 1974. I was in the first street fair in Ventura on Main Street and have been doing craft shows off and on as time permits. At the begining of this year my wife and I took a stained glass class and then a glass fusion class. We have set a glass studio up in our garage bought a kiln and other equipment, and we are off on a new adventure. Calling ourselves Recycled Iron & Glass,  We have done the shows at Green Art People, Ventura Elks, and Stone Works Gallery.
